SECOND YEAR CLASSES
SY201 – METHODS STRATEGY OF CHURCH PLANTING
This course provides the student with a broad knowledge of church growth strategies being implemented today and helps him to evaluate such methodologies in the light of Scripture. The student gains practical knowledge of sound biblical methods of promoting church growth and learns how to apply these methods in various church settings.
SY202 – CHURCH HISTORY
This is a study of Christianity from the first century through the Reformation with special emphasis on the institutional history of the church as well as theological developments in the church. The first conflicts of Christianity with Judaism, paganism, Greek philosophy, Christianity as a state religion, the rise and decline of the papacy, and the reformers will be discussed.
SY203 – CHILD GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
This course helps the teacher develop skills and methods of teaching the Bible with consideration of the varying ages of children’s ministry within the church. The student also learns to develop a Bible curriculum for the Sunday School and examines various methods of presentation.
SY204 – ECCLESIOLOGY
This course is a study of the doctrine of the local church. It includes such areas as origin, distinctive nature for this present age, organization, government, ordinances, and the specific role of the pastor.
SY205 – ROMANS I
This course begins with a brief discussion of the introductory matter of the book of Romans and then moves into a study of key passages.
SY206 – HOMILETICS
This course is designed to aid in sermon preparation and delivery. The goal is to be able to rightly divide the Word of God and to present the Gospel by means of various delivery methods.
SY207 – INTRODUCTION TO MISSIONS
This course is an introduction to the scriptural basis of Christian missions and to the definition of missions. Historic missionary efforts are evaluated by biblical principles.
SY208 – MISSION LIFE AND WORK
This course is a practical study of the missionary’s life and work which includes his personal preparation, internship, deputation, departure and arrival on the field, first term, and furlough.
SY209 – PASTORAL THEOLOGY
This course provides the student with practical information and experience in regard to pastoring a church. The student learns how to develop a philosophy of ministry, organize his work, set and implement ministerial goals, supervise a church staff, conduct weddings, and funerals, and lead the church ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. He also learns how to conduct other special meetings of the church as well as organize new churches, solve church problems, promote special days, and other related functions of the Baptist church. The student learns through a practical, hands-on approach where applicable.
SY210 – BIBLICAL WOMEN’S MINISTRIES
This course is designed to prepare the student for practical ministry with women. Emphasis is given to the spiritual, academic, and domestic areas of development in order to lead and establish a ministry to women in the churches.
SY211 – MAJOR PROPHETS
This course seeks to give an overview of the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel with the view of special attention to the message of the prophets for Israel and for the prophetic meaning for the end times.
SY212 – ESCHATOLOGY
This course enlarges the student’s knowledge and comprehension relative to prophetic portions of Scripture. Methods of interpretation, the Divine covenants made with Israel, prophecies pertaining to Gentile nations, the Church, the tribulation, the millennium, and final judgment are some of the themes discussed. This course is taught from a pre-millennial, pre-tribulation viewpoint.
SY213 – PAULINE EPISTLES
This course seeks to give an overview of the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and I and II Thessalonians. Notice is made of the background and main teaching of each book.

THIRD YEAR CLASSES

TY301 – HERMENEUTICS
This course aids the student toward understanding and achieving proficiency in the science and art of biblical interpretation. The principles of the literal, historical, grammatical, and contextual method of interpretation are discussed and established as being correct
TY302 – CHRISTIAN ETHICS
This course is a brief survey of the subject of ethics and systems of thought. The primary emphasis is on a biblical and practical approach to right conduct. Many contemporary issues will be considered.
TY303 – BIBLICAL COUNSELLING I
This course studies how to make counseling a vital and natural part of the local church, emphasizing the development of preventative programmes. It is intended to give a survey of counseling principles and will lay a foundation to help the student to better understand the issues faced in the ministry
TY304 – BIBLICAL COUNSELLING II
This course is a continuation and enhancement of Biblical Counselling I. In this class, the student delves deeper into his own motives and attitudes and learns skills for helping others.
TY305 – SONG LEADING AND WORSHIP
This course covers rudimentary conducting techniques, including beat patterns, movement skills, and music fundamentals. It is intended to prepare the prospective pastor, missionary, or church worker to lead the congregation in a worship service. Discussion of worship methods and philosophy will also be included.
TY306 – FIRST CORINTHIANS
This course gives a general overview of the book with introductory matters such as the occasion and purpose of the letter and the origin of the church at Corinth. Examination of the major teachings of the books is included.
TY307 – HEBREWS
This course is an in-depth study of the book of Hebrews.
TY308 – APOLOGETICS
Students are introduced to the major theological positions in apologetics. They develop a biblical system that will enable them to present the gospel to adherents of world religions.
TY309 – ROMANS II
This class is a continuation of Romans I.
TY310 – CHURCH ADMINISTRATION
This class is designed to teach the skills of financial management and accountability. The focus will also be on governmental regulations concerning churches. Development of ministries and organization of church polity will also be discussed.
SY311 – MINOR PROPHETS
A survey of each book is offered, with emphasis placed upon the prophecies as they relate to Israel. Special attention is given to the past and future judgments upon Israel and the Messianic hope offered by the prophets.
TY312 – CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION
This is a concentrated study of the factors essential in communicating biblical concepts cross-culturally. The aim is to teach skills necessary to understand other cultures and to interpret the gospel to them in ways that would honour Christ.
